For the past two years I have been senior producer to Art on Paper located in downtown Manhattan's Pier 36 on top of basketball courts. This show has over 80 galleries, and attendance of over 25,000 over the course of 4 days.
Not only have I managed the pre and post production of this show, but I have also curated the installation program allowing me to work closely with Big Heavy Studios to create custom onsite installations made completely out of felt.
These installation and other paper based installations bring together the theme of this paper based show and allow audiences to really experience paper as an art based medium.
Having creative control and approval over the installations, decorations, and VIP program marketing and the food and beverage program make this fair one of my favorites.
John Wayne: The Genuine Article
John Wayne The Genuine article was a collaboration between Art Market Productions, The John Wayne Estate, Becki Kozel, and Dynamic Events of Denver. I was the senior producer for this fast moving event. We build out a 6 room 6000 square foot exhibit in the holiday halls of the Gaylord hotel in Nashville.
Brilliantly designed by Becki Kozel this exhibit had over 500 images that I was responsible for resizing, ordering, checking in, and getting installed.
I managed the entire AV sourcing and installation for projections, kindles, sound design, and video clips. I sourced all production equiptment, materials for interactive elements, and assisted in getting the retail space up and running.
With a tight schedule, limited budgets, and custom fabrication this is one of the hardest installations to date, but we pulled everything off on time and in perfect condition.
Kasai Pro 2017
KASAI Elite Grappling Championships is a competitive professional and amateur Jiu-Jitsu promotion that hosts live events with grapplers from around the globe. I was the senior producer on their first professional event help at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Greenpoint Brooklyn, NY.
I had a hand in everything production related for this event from location scouting, to floor plan seat marking. This event required me to build out a competition space, enough seating to house over 300 people, and dynamic AV components. I worked closely with our AV tech in order to create a highly visual tournament that was broadcast online. No seat in the warehouse was bad as we provided enough LED screen for multiple viewing angles.
We produced a high quality event with good food, drinks, lighting, and sound. This show is still talked about in the Jiu-Jitsu circle as one of the best produced professional events.
Seattle Art Fair 2015 - 2017
The Seattle Art Fair is an annual art fair that started in 2015. I have been deeply involved in the production of this massive show. This fair has over 90 galleries, multiple off site projects, and attendance over 22,000 in four days creating an intense production build, budgets, and schedule. I prepped, proofed, ordered and oversaw the installation of all signage, managed a team of over 75 temporary employees, lead the onsite installation build, and over saw the entire production.
Art Market San Francisco 2016-2017
Built out in the Fort Mason Festival Pavilion the Art Market San Fransisco Art Fair has attendance of over 25,000 people, and partners with some top sponsors such as Lincoln, Fort Point Brewery, and the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco.
In 2017 along with running production, I also curated the on-sight installation program working with 11 galleries and artists to create an exciting, and innovative installation program. Highlights include Seninbari (1,000 stitched knots) by Lisa Solomon, Nuclear Garden by Kindah Khalidy, and Against Interpretation by Daniel Burnett.
Market Art + Design 2015 - 2017
Market Art + Design is a beautiful contemporary and modern art fair that runs every summer in Bridgehampton. The fun easy branding of this fair was designed by Becki Kozel based off art work by Jen Wink Hays.
As a senior producer of a fair built out in a tent you have multiple challenges to face including, permitting, tent leaks, flooring for the space, and where to house over 60 galleries. This past year was expanded into two tents, and we needed to strategically create two seamless walkways through the two tents. The results were beautiful.
Not only did I have regular production responsibilities, I also curated the installations, and assisted with three sponsor activations for Godiva, Aperol, and Louis Jadot. I assisted three separate marketing agencies to make sure their activations ran smoothly and would logistically work. These additional activations created a fun expereince for our attendees and made out outdoor cafe bright and exciting.
Texas Contemporary 2015-2016
The Texas Contemporary annual art fair is held at the massive George R Brown convention center; one of the larger convention centers I have worked out. The challenge with working in a space this large is to make people not feel so isolated by the cold steel. This was achieved through well designed branding and signage done by Becki Kozel as well as a thoughtful installation program I curated.
We want to have the space and architecture work with us, not against us. We created a beautiful VIP lounge designed by GENSLER that took the structural elements of the building, but softened them using colorful felt coverings. It was a pleasure working with GENSLER on this amazing lounge and it created an absolutely beautiful space our attendees could relax in.
